Review: It is a widely known fact that men are from Mars and Women are from Venus and the two just can’t get on the same wavelength. This movie definitely highlights that fact but with a lesson. This movie is a laugh-a-thon about an estranged couple who, after seven years of marriage, is simply going through the motions of marriage but both are actually miserable.

The wife is intrusive and simply does not understand privacy in regards to her husband. She constantly nags and criticizes everything and doesn’t keep anything inside her. She is also lives very shabbily and everything around her is a mess except her kitchen because of her passion for cooking.

The husband is meek and doesn’t talk much. He wants to speak up but is too scared to cause a rife so just politely excuses himself from a situation leaving his wife to fight out any problems. He stops caring about his wife and tries to be away from her as much as possible. Everything she does gets in his hair leaving him in a pathetic mood and constantly complaining to himself and desiring a divorce. This grows to such an extent that he desperately begs his boss to transfer him to another city for a one-year work operation to get away from his wife. But when he gets the transfer and moves to another city he barely revels for a moment before his wife turns up to the new city citing that family is first priority.

tried hard to make her stop from coming
Now, more desperate than ever Doo Hyeon (the husband) notices that in his neighbourhood lives a legendary Casanova who can seem to get any women begging for him in the blink of an eye. Doo Hyeon comes up with a plan and propositions this Casanova to seduce his wife so that she is the one who ends up demanding a divorce. At first the Casanova refuses but when Jeong In (the wife) barely acknowledges him and doesn’t seem to fall for his charms, he takes her on as a challenge and accepts Doo Hyeon’s proposition. Now, cue comedy, mayhem, jealousy and chaos.

I must say, the actors are simply brilliant here. I have always been a fan of Lee Sun Gyun but Im Su Jeong stole my heart here. Her acting for point on. Never once did she fail to entertain me nor once did she deviate from her character. Her constant nagging, her body language, expressions and everything were superb to say the least. Even Ryu Seung Ryong, the Casanova Sung Ki, was a cheesy character but amazing. All the main actors did an incredible job. The supporting cast was also good but not did not really seem very remarkable or exceptional to me. Their acting was so-so.

The plot and story of the film was really nice. It deals with the common problem of many married couples, where they lose their spark after a couple years of marriage and start taking each other for granted. The ending was the story really provided a good lesson, if we make the effort to take a moment to understand our spouse and genuinely spend a few moments with them every day, miracles can happen if we stop taking things for granted and be grateful. In the end Doo Hyeon realized the reason why his wife started behaving so and realized how he started overlooking her resulting in her feeling lonely and neglected in her marriage. Once he started being more considerate towards his wife, she also changed in ways he could not imagine was possible, for the better.

There was a great taste of music in this movie with more focus on foreign songs. It really did set the mood in a lot of places and transports the viewer to a different land all together. Therefore, it really contributed to a great viewer experience and encouraging viewer involvement and relatable feelings.

I personally felt that the whole directing and cinematography here was excellent and well executed. There was never a dull moment in the movie and there was this constant underlying energy which keeps you on the edge of your seat in anticipation. The comic retorts had great timing and the entire scenario was well-plotted. In the end, when they switched form a comic approach to an emotional one, it was a really smooth transition and did not seem off in the least. The emotional scene was also very heart-warming and sweet.

Overall, this movie was definitely a beautiful watch with a brilliant romedy and love-triangle. The main leads are a delight to watch and you can definitely not go wrong with this movie.

  • Acting (Especially Im Su Jeong)
